Colleagues

CET works closely with educators across all the faculties in the university.

CET also works closely with colleagues within the Centre for Higher Education Development, whose work closely overlaps with CET’s work.

CET works with the Language Development Group (LDG) focuses on the role of English in academic literacy in a multilingual society. The LDG promoted and facilitates access to higher education, within an ethos of social justice and national redress. The co-ordinator of the LDG is Moragh Paxton.

CET has worked extensively with the Numeracy Centre which exists to ensure that all UCT graduates are “effectively numerate”. The co-ordinator is Vera Frith.

CET works with the Writing Centre which is a kills-based unit, created to provide a walk-in, one-on-one consultancy service for students from all faculties, and all academic levels of the university. The co-coordinator is Arlene Archer.

CET works extensively with the Academic Development Programmes faculty based staff. These include June Pym of the Commerce Academic Development Programme, Andy Buffler of the Science Academic Development Programme and Salie Alie of the Engineering Academic Development Programme.

CET is committed to ICT literate graduates and works with the Career Development Programme (CDP) whose director is Anne Short. The Career Development Programme. CDP aims to promote student awareness of the importance of cultivating career management skills as an integral part of their university learning experience.

CET’s interests and work intersects with the Centre for Information Literacy (CIL) whose director is Peter Underwood.

CET’s staff development activities are closely liked with the work of the Higher and Adult Education Studies and Development Unit (HAESDU) which has as its mission the professional development of academic staff and educators of adults, and the development of institutional systems which support teaching and learning of traditional and non-traditional students. The co-coordinator of HAESDU is Jeff Jawitz.

CET also works with the Multilingualism Education Project (MEP) which takes as its starting point the need to prepare students to participate fully in a multilingual society, where multilingual proficiency and awareness are essential. The MEP coordinator is Mbulungeni Madiba.
