Blogs
The term "blog" is derived from "Web log." "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog. A blog is a user-generated website where entries are made in journal style and displayed in a reverse chronological order. Blogs function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. Readers are able to comment on blog entries. Blogs can also used for educational purposes. These include amongst others developing students’ reflective journals, sharing course-related resources and peer review of assignments.
Wikis
A Wiki can be thought of as a combination of a Web site and a Word document. Its real power lies in the fact that groups can work collaboratively on the content of the site. Secondly, a wiki keeps track of the history of a document as it is revised.. Each time a person makes changes to a wiki page, that revision of the content becomes the current version, and an older version is stored. Wikis can be used for educational purposes. Students can create simple websites, engage in collaborative writing projects or group projects. Writing, revising and submiting as assignments all occur in the same place. Wikis also enable feedback to students from lecturer or peers on draft assignments.
